The workshop housed the machine shop, electrical workshop, and compressor room under one roof, with a 15 tonne overhead crane running its full length. BHP Collieries built the colliery to supply coking coal to the Newcastle steelworks, opening production in 1930. Part of the Elrington Colliery series.
