BOS Scrap Loading accordion its still surface throwing backA skip loaded with steel scrap sits beneath the crane gantries of the Basic Oxygen Steelmaking plant at Port Kembla Steelworks. The BOS process, introduced in 1972 using 200 250 tonne vessels, replaced the open hearth furnaces that had run since 1931. Scrap is one of the raw material inputs charged into those vessels before the oxygen lance begins its work. Part of the BlueScope Port Kembla series.
